This one day workshop runs specifically for small groups of between 3-5 people. 

The day is suitable for complete beginners, and more experienced Painters, Mixed Media Artists and photographers. Using molten beeswax and resin to create textural, organic images, you will learn how to paint with this ancient medium in a contemporary way. We will prepare and paint on an 11” x 11” cradled wooden panel using R&F pigment sticks, a whole host of mixed media, collage items and photographs. 

At the end of the day, you will have a good appreciation of the versatility of this mesmerising medium and will have had the opportunity to experiment. 

The cost includes hot and cold drinks. There is a wide selection of tasty, locally sourced cakes and lunches available in the adjacent White Stones Art Café. All work-shoppers receive a 10% discount on food and drinks purchased in the Café. 

Lyn Kirkland

Lyn is a Local Portland Artist working with the ancient medium of Encaustic Wax. Encaustic wax uses beeswax in a molten state to create paintings formed of layers of wax which are fused to one another. This method of creating textural work, is what inspires Lyn to produce highly unusual pieces  allowing light to reflect through the wax, embedding photographs, scratching into the surface, and watching pigments dance across the surface. 

Lyn has been teaching encaustic wax painting for four very successful years. A recent Black Swan Open Exhibition winner, she has exhibited across the South West of England, most recently with the South West Academy in Exeter. Her style of teaching is both fun and informative, allowing students to explore and create a finished piece of work which has incorporated several techniques.

Stone Carving workshops for beginners with John Davey

Day workshops; March 23rd and April 20th - 10AM - 4:30PM

John your tutor has over 30yrs experience as a sculptor and stonemason. Teaching stone carving to adults and children in England and France.

The workshops are set up for those wanting to take time, to situate, learn and find pleasure in discovering ways of expression through stone carving.

Providing starting points, encouraging the development of ideas, knowledge, skills, visual awareness and creative potential.

• The stone carving courses will give you the opportunity to sculpt a small relief of your own design (or by using one of my templates) on a piece of Portland Stone.

• The course is suitable for ages 12+

• Tools and materials are supplied as well as protective safety glasses.

• Appropriate clothing to be worn (i.e. enclosed shoes)

• The stones vary in size but to give you a rough idea here are some sizes. 22 x 20cms, 18 x 22cms. If you have a design in mind and can print out different sizes that would be great.

• Coffee & Tea supplied. 

• If you decide to use your own design, please bring images/drawings.

Kate Arbon - Silver Jewellery

Classes start on Tuesday, 5th February

Cost £125 for a five weeks. 10am -1.30pm

It is very exciting to be able to offer this new Silver Jewellery Making course at 'White Stones Studios' on Portland. Over the five week course students will be taught all about piercing, texturing, forming and soldering silver. There will be an introduction to stone setting and you will be designing and creating a silver ring, bangle or pendant. 
Making silver jewellery is a hobby in which there is so much to learn. Students will be more than welcome to return and extend their skills on a regular basis.

All the tools you will need will be provided to borrow, you may prefer to purchase your own if you get inspired.
There is an excellent cafe at White Stones in which to buy lunch or have break for tea and cake and a discount of 10% will be offered to those taking part in the workshop.

Reflexology 45 minutes - £37.00

Reflexology is a massage of the feet and is based on the theory that every organ, area and system of the body is mirrored by a reex point in the feet. Reflexology helps reduce stress, so often the root of many health problems and is an incredibly relaxing treatment. By massaging these points of the feet the reflexologist can facilitate a clearing of any blockages in the corresponding areas of the body. Reflexology is a holistic treatment and also encourages relaxation and promotes good health and vitality.

Reiki 45 minutes - £35.00

During a treatment energy is transmitted through the practitioner’s hands to the client. This energy has a therapeutic effect on all levels of their being: physical emotional, mental and spiritual.
